Privacy Policy

Who runs this site

Ranking Bond (https://rankingbond.com) is an independent site of opinionated James Bond lists, run by its owner. In this policy, “we” and “us” mean the site owner.

The short version

We never ask you for personal information. There are no accounts, comment forms, contact forms or newsletter signups here. We use Google Analytics to count visits, we show ads from Google AdSense, and our web host’s servers record basic information about each visit.

What we collect and how

Analytics. We use Google Analytics 4 to learn how many people visit, which pages they read, how they found us and which links they click, including links to other sites. It is added to the site with the MonsterInsights plugin for WordPress. Google Analytics sets cookies in your browser (named _ga and _ga_ followed by an ID) to tell new visitors from returning ones; by default these can last up to two years. It records things like pages viewed, time on page, the site that referred you, your approximate location (city or country), and your browser, device and screen size. Google says Google Analytics 4 does not log or store IP addresses; it uses them briefly to estimate location. Our Google Analytics account keeps this data for 14 months. We see it as totals and trends, and we don’t use it to identify anyone.

Google signals. We have Google signals turned on in Google Analytics. For visitors who are signed in to a Google account and have ad personalization turned on, this lets Google connect visits across devices and give us combined reports, such as age ranges and interests. These reports never show us who you are. You can control this in your Google account’s ad settings (My Ad Center).

Server logs. Like nearly every website, our host’s servers automatically record each request, including your IP address, the date and time, the page or file requested, your browser type and the referring page.

Cookies. Google Analytics sets the cookies described above. Google’s advertising service also sets cookies, described under Advertising below. WordPress uses login cookies, but only for the site owner when signing in to manage the site.

Comments, forms and signups. None. Comments are closed on every post, and there is no contact form or email signup. If we add one, we will update this policy first.

Links to other websites

Some posts link to other sites, such as official tourism or venue pages. These links open in a new tab and carry tags (utm_source=rankingbond.com and utm_medium=referral) that tell the other site’s analytics the visit came from Ranking Bond. The tags identify our site, not you. Your browser may also tell the other site which page you came from (the standard “referrer”). Once you leave, that site’s own privacy policy applies, and we don’t control what it collects.

Third-party services

We don’t sell or rent visitor information, and we only share it with these providers as described here.

Advertising

Ranking Bond shows ads served by Google AdSense. Ads help pay for the site.

Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your previous visits to this site and to other sites. Google’s use of advertising cookies lets Google and its partners show you ads based on your visits to Ranking Bond and other sites on the internet. These ads may be personalized to your interests, or non-personalized, which use general information such as the page you are reading and your approximate location.

Google runs the ads on this site. Google may also let other ad companies it has approved bid to show an ad here, and those companies may set their own cookies. Google lists these companies, with links to their privacy policies: Google’s list of ad technology providers.

Your consent. If you visit from the European Economic Area, the UK or Switzerland, you’ll see a consent message from Google before personalized ads are shown. It names the ad companies involved and lets you accept or refuse. If you visit from a US state with a consumer privacy law, such as California, you’ll see a “Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information” option. To change your choice later, clear this site’s cookies in your browser and the message will appear again.

You can also control ads this way:

We don’t choose the individual ads you see, and we don’t receive information that identifies you from the ads.

Children’s privacy

This site is written for a general audience and is not directed to children under 13. We don’t knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.

Your choices

  • Block or delete cookies in your browser settings. The site works fine without them.
  • Turn off personalized ads from Google in Ads Settings.
  • Opt out of personalized ads from some other ad companies at www.aboutads.info.
  • Install Google’s Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.
  • Browse in private or incognito mode, or use a privacy extension.

To ask a question or request deletion of information about you, email us. Note that Google Analytics reports don’t let us pick out individual visitors.

Changes to this policy

We’ll update this page whenever what we collect changes, and update the effective date at the top.
